Google Sites made with Business Profile are being discontinued

Google sites made with Google business profile soon will no longer be available.

Google’s decision to shut down basic websites created with Google Business Profiles will take effect in March. This means that customers will have no choice but to visit your Google Business Profile. Websites with URLs ending in business.site and negocio.site will be affected by this change. Starting March 2024, visitors will be automatically redirected to your Google Business Profile. This redirection will be temporary and will last until June 10, 2024. Business owners have less than six months to make the necessary updates to their online presence.

Google sites shutting down

Google has recently made an announcement stating that by March 2024, websites created using Google Business Profiles will be deactivated. Instead, customers who visit your site will be automatically redirected to your Business Profile. It is highly advised that you take the necessary steps to update your Google Business Profile and ensure it directs users to a new website.

After June 10, customers will encounter a “page not found” error when trying to access your Business Profile website, which will have been deactivated for approximately three months.

Google also mentioned that if you wish to maintain a website for your business, you should consider creating a new one using alternative tools and updating your Business Profile with the new website address.

In addition to these changes, Google emphasized some background administrative tasks that business owners should complete, such as managing Ads campaigns linked to the website and handling third-party domains.

What is A Google Business Profile?

On a broader scale, a Google Business Profile serves as a platform to post updates, share links to websites and social media accounts, upload photos, and provide contact information.

If you don’t have a Google Business Profile for your business, you should consider creating one. As of 2023 there is over 4,000 different types of business categories.

Google transferred its Domains business to Squarespace in 2023, and has been directing Google Domains customers to Squarespace ever since.
